So here's a craptastic version of my animation, The Darkening Sky. Following in its predocessor's (Rain [link] ) footsteps, tDS won both the Academy Award for Best Picture... jk haha

Skills USA Spring 2007
"The Darkening Sky" -Best in State(1st Place) in 3D Animation at State
"The Darkening Sky" -Best in Show in 3D Animation at District 4

While I recieved tons of praise from family and friends, I know this animation has many flaws that I agree* and don't fully agree with.
1) In some places, 2D and 3D just don't mix.
2) I should of stayed with the single voice (my dad's voice).*
3) I spent way too much time modeling my dragon instead of spacing it out and making other things awesome before my deadline.*
4) Some scenes aren't animated and should be.
5) The baby is too cartoon-y.*
6) Some scenes are full 2D and even animated 2D.
7) The dragon flies too slow in the beginning.*

If anyone has any comments feel free, but I prefer if I can get some more critique cause some of my judges at the contest were quite stupid...

"You need to show her mate dead."
Thank you for not watching my animation!

@02:14This is so similar to the story I had thought up for my Character, Zafforon, except the knights killed his wife and two of his children. But he reacted in much the same way. I'm impressed with your animation skills. Very good job!

@02:14That's cool. It's not explained in the animation, but the dragon-slayers that pursued her were actually a mutated race of humans that had been enhanced by the blood of dragons they've slain. They are quite addicted to their blood and chased Arenael to the edge of the continent where she lost them as she swam the seas with orca whales as one herself (she's a shape-shifter). During that time, she was pregnant and when the time came for her to lay her eggs, she still could not go back to the mainland. She laid them on a blizzard cursed island. While she was ok, the eggs were not adapted to the freezing temperatures. Most did not hatch, though two did. One died in the effort of hatching, the other died after 2 days. :(

@02:14wow. See my dragons have no mythical or magical qalities. Everything about them is biologically possible in our world. No fire breathing or shapeshifting. Although they are bullet proof due to their scales being so dense, but if you get under the scales their skin is just as sensitive as human flesh.

@02:14Well, in my world, it isn't because their powers are mythical or magical. They have been a species that has survived for eons and thus reached the pinnacle of their evolution long ago. Their "powers" is their ability to manipulate matter with thought. Kind of like alchemy using the mind as the tool.

@01:51Most of the religions that originated between southern Europe and northern Africa, saw to it that the dragon was a creature of evil. For them it was quite logical. A giant scaled creature that could breathe fire? For the Christians it had to be a servant of the devil. One of the few dragon species that were viewed as benevolent were the Lung in eastern Asia.

Wow, this is really great. I love the 3D animation, especially of the dragon's wings (a lot of people can't seem to get it right). The music fits with it really well too. Poor dragon, I hope she's ok :-(

Yes, besides building the model itself, her wings took quite a chunk out of the time I worked on this animation. However, luckily, I modeled her wings correctly and the flying motion worked perfectly. ^_^

This was very beautiful but sad. I loved the story. It's funny how the cycle of revenge continues within both man and beast. Great job. I can't wait to see what else you do. I love dragons so this made me cry a little. :( Keep up the good work. I will be watching.

It gets even worse for the dragoness =\
Because she is wounded and chased later on in the story, when she lays her clutch of eggs only 2 hatch. Though only one makes it past 5 minutes of living in the cold area Arenael was chased to. Then the dragonslayers find her again and kill her only daughter Sael during the fight.

oh my!! the poor dragons. :( I feel so bad for them. You should continue the story with more animations. I love watching them. I would love to see more of the dragon's struggle from the humans. Humans to me can be more of the beast than anything else. So your story really interests me. If you ever find the time, I would love to see more. You could make this a beautiful struggle of a dragons view to a story. Usually it's always the human's view and struggle. Good work and keep it up. :)

omg that would rock!! I am taking animation in school right now too and we can share our stuff on deviantart. n_n I love dragons and dinosaurs and your work is cool. It will be nice to see how you improve and tell your stories. I really like them. I wish you had some full movies hehe but hopefully they can all add up to one.
I will be watching. :)

HAH! Movies! You should know already how time-consuming animation can be. I doubt I could makes something larger than 15 minutes without loosing my mind. XD Arenael's model ALONE took me a month (half the reason was cause I like to pay attention to detail even when its not needed >_>;). But I shall try, for you!

hehe n_n indeed it is time consuming. Over years tho you could try and produce a short film. But who knows. It is whatever is in your heart to do. I guess it depends on how much passion you have for it. But even 15 minute short films is great. Over time you could put them together and create one big one.

Very nice :D Im entirely impressed :)

If i have a critique to give, its that the 2d animation looks a little sloppy sometimes.the lines are a little scribbly. having it a bit cleaner would match the 3d a bit better :)

Overall it was a neat thing to watch, with a nice story :D I was captivated :D
